A talweg, or thalweg in German, is the line formed by the lowest points in a valley or the bed of a watercourse. It is often shaped by erosion and is occupied by the hydrographic network. The talweg is the opposite of the ridge line or watershed. It is also used metaphorically to describe intellectual laziness or easy solutions. In meteorology, talweg refers to a barometric low. The term talweg is commonly used in non-rocky terrains, and the space between two talwegs is called the interfluve.
